The following are some unabridged comments from those who have done Cogmed working memory training with me. While all gave their permission to use their real names, I have opted to maintain confidentiality in keeping with established practice in the healthcare profession.
“I enrolled in a Masters degree at 50 and had some concern about whether I would be able to manage my studies. Especially the attention needed to work through research papers and just whether this brain of mine could adapt and gear up to a different set of demands. My colleague Gerard offered the opportunity to work through the Cogmed training program. It requires discipline and some planning which in itself was a useful behavioural strategy to practise. I was pleased to see my progress and improvement across the training days. I think I experienced what people refer to as a ‘dopamine rush’ as I managed to improve memory tasks time after time. It required daily focused attention for a sustained period of time. That probably served me unintentionally in preparing for the rigours of academic life and it was a good confidence booster.”
“My marks jumped 20%!”
“On behalf of my son, we want to thank you for assisting us with the Cogmed Course. It required a lot of discipline during the last term, but we made it on time before the holiday in December. Thanks to the course being fun, building your city* after each day’s results. We saw a huge improvement in Nicholas’s results. Not only on the academic side, but also in his tennis matches where he could rally for much longer in a more disciplined manner. – Very impressive. We can really recommend it for anybody who wants to improve their concentration abilities on or off the field.”
“She passed her Matric with a Bachelor’s pass, and this year was admitted to do the degree of her choice at UCT. She is in her element, focused and no longer plagued by anxiety or attentional issues. None of this would’ve happened if our paths didn’t cross with yours.”
